Summary
The Accounting Assistant is responsible for the accounts payable process and ensuring creditor days are maintained and within benchmarked days, costing shipments and ensuring that inventory is valued correctly and complies with policies, procedures, and controls.

Key Responsibilities

ACCOUNTING MANAGEMENT: Operational/Monthly/Weekly/Daily

  • Reconcile and pay all Company Credit Cards before due date -monthly/weekly*

  • Prepare all statutory payments - monthly

  • Prepare and process payment for local suppliers every 10 days – Cheque Cycle

  • Email remittances to all suppliers.

  • Reconcile and pay all foreign suppliers in line with credit terms - monthly

  • Payment of utilities – monthly*

  • Updates sub ledger with payments made to suppliers – In the absence of Data Entry Clerk & Or to meet KPI

  • Prepares reconciliation of the AP/ AP Clearing/Landed Cost/Payables/Accruals to GL - Payables Report - monthly

  • Prepares any ad-hoc analyses or reports as required

  • Maintain 20115 Clearing A/C monthly

  • Cheque Register monthly*

  • Enter all accounts payable invoices accurately and on time.

  • Match foreign supplier invoices with purchase orders (including drop shipments).

  • Process invoices that include shipping charges.

  • Handle ad hoc invoices when needed to meet KPIs or during the absence of the Data Entry Clerk.

  • Enter accrual journals and other ad hoc journals as required.

  • Costs shipments as they are received in the warehouse

  • Maintains landed cost clearing A/C

    OTHER:

Operational/Monthly/Weekly/Daily

  • Assist in annual stock check.

  • Assist in annual audit.

  • Release Credit Holds (As Required)

  • Assist in budgeting.

  • Any additional duties as required.

Job requirements

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Pursuing ACCA Level 2 or equivalent

  • Minimum two (2) years’ same role experience

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Proficiency in Peachtree Accounting and EPICOR will be an asset

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Analytical thinker and problem solver

  • High level of accuracy

  • Effective time management and ability to meet deadlines

  • Trustworthy and discreet when dealing with confidential information

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Sound business etiquette

  • Ability and willingness to learn new skills

  • Police certificate of good character
